Neuerungen am Turniermodus zum Jahresanfang 2019

ENGLISH VERSION BELOW

P4P Vorstand und Turnierleitung

Dear foosers,

We always try to give you the best possible experience at our tournaments. On the one hand we try to fulfill all the player‘s wishes, on the other hand the organizational effort should be kept at a size which is still manageable for us as the tournament organizer. One issue that players often complain about are the running times of our tournaments. E. g. at the P4P season kick-off tournament in January 2018, on Sunday evening the tournament took way too long. Of course, we had an exceptionally high number of players at that event (over 400), but still it was not the first time the tournament finished too late for the taste of everybody involved.

In the future, tournaments should be finished at reasonable times on Saturday as well as on Sunday. The message from the players is very clear regarding this point, and we ourselves also don‘t want to work until Monday morning to dismantle all the tables, banners, laptops etc.. To make it short: we are searching for a solution that fits for everybody. But of course that‘s not really easy.

The root cause for problems with the time schedule is usually not the high participation numbers or the number of tables used. The most time gets lost when near to the end of the tournament, a few very good players are still competing in many events at the same time, and so are blocking matches that could otherwise be played. Using 100 tables more or having 100 participants less won‘t fix that problem.

It‘s necessary to intervene at the right spots. Therefore, as a first step, we want to test some modifications at the coming season opener in February 2019. We think that can safe us considerable time. Additionally we are thinking to test a completely new tournament system at other P4P events in the future. At the moment we are thinking in many different directions, concepts are being made and we want to try out and evaluate more modifications in 2019. At the season opener we will test a limitation of disciplines everybody can participate in:

On Saturday:

  • Men are only allowed to compete in 5 disciplines at the same time (i. e. signing up for a sixth event is only possible if you are finished in at least one of the others, at the time the sixth event starts).
  • Women may in the same manner compete in at most 6 disciplines at the same time.

On Sunday:

  • Men are allowed to compete in at most 4 disciplines at the same time.
  • Woman are allowed to compete in at most 5 disciplines at the same time.

We would like to hear your feedback, and we try to fulfill your wishes as much as possible. If you have more ideas how to improve the time issues, please let us know!
We are looking forward to the new season and wish you all happy foosin! :-)
